Navigating the Learning Management System

The Learning Management System (LMS) is hosted and maintained by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and used to conduct all cybersecurity certification courses taught by Phase2 Advantage.  This overview of the portal was created to make the initial user experience easier for new students and to highlight the most important navigation links utilized in the program.  Of course, we will be here to answer any questions that arise regarding the LMS during your training experience.

The Initial Logon

When a student registration for a course is received, an email will be sent from a Blackboard supervisor at TCSG to the student with instructions for initial registration and changing the preset password.  The email used will be the same as the student used to register for the course.  If the email is not received within 2-3 days, please check your spam and trash email folders.  When the TCSG email is opened you will be presented with the initial logon screen.

LMS Portal Layout

The LMS portal is intuitive and easy to navigate.  All links needed to access each component of the course is located on the left side of the screen.  There are numerous resources available to students in the LMS to assist them in their studies.  Listed below are the important links with which students will have the most interaction.

LMS Navigation Overview

1. Start Here

This is the LMS landing page containing the student’s “Welcome Message.”  Information about the course instructor, navigating the platform, and contact information for questions and additional information will be displayed on this page.

2. Course Textbook

On the navigation pane to the left of your screen click on the “Course Textbook” link. If you are taking this course in the United States, a physical copy of the course textbook has been mailed to you and should arrive in 7-14 days via USPS Media Mail. If you are an international student, the textbook has been provided for you in PDF format to download and is available in physical copy from Amazon and all major booksellers..  A digital copy of the course textbook is provided to all students for their convenience.

3. Course Domains

On the navigation pane to the left of your screen click on the “Course Chapters” link. Locate the chapter you are studying (begin with Domain 01) and click on the title of the chapter. Within the chapters you will find links for “Lecture Slides” and a “Knowledge Assessment Quiz.” Click on the link you wish to access. Additional instructions for each link have been provided in additional detail throughout the portal.

4. Lecture Slides

Underneath the file icon for “Lecture Slides” you will find a link to the domain slides. Click the link and a new window will open containing the slides. They may be viewed in your browser or downloaded and opened with a PDF reader. The slides (in PDF format) have been made available for download for your convenience.

5. Knowledge Assessment Quizzes

The last link in the domain navigation pane is for the “Knowledge Assessment Quiz.” Click the link and you will be prompted to take a 10-question quiz on the content of the domain. When the quiz is completed click “SUBMIT” to receive your quiz score, a list of the questions answered, whether the question was answered correctly or incorrectly, and the correct answer to the question. You may take the quiz as many times as is necessary until you believe you have mastered the domain content.  Multiple attempts will have no negative impact on your certification exam score.

6. Course Labs

On the navigation panel to the left of your screen click the “Labs” link.  The name of the lab will be different for each course, and not all courses utilize labs.  Follow the instructions provided on the main page. They may be viewed in your browser or downloaded and opened with a PDF reader.

7. Certification Exam

Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared to sit for the certification exam. The online examination will consist of True/False, Multiple Choice, and Fill in the Blank questions. Students will be allowed to use their notes on content presented during the course as well as their course study materials. The exam may be taken at any time within 3 months of enrolling in the course. Students will have two hours to complete a computer-based examination consisting of 100 questions. A score of 70% or higher is required to earn the certification. Upon successful completion of the exam, students will be emailed a copy of their certification and their CPE credit documentation via email (PDF format) within 72-hours of the exam date.

8. My Grades

On the navigation pane to the left of your screen click on the “My Grades” link. This page will contain a list of your final quiz grades and the grade for your certification exam.  Grades can also be viewed for multiple attempts on quizzes, accurately tracking the progress of the student’s learning.
