The Path to Firearm Skill Proficiency

These courses are listed in sequential order based on skill level.

Introduction to Defensive Firearm Deployment

Course Objective: To expose attendees with limited experience to the handling of firearms with the effective skills using proven techniques; ensure the safe handling of weapons remains at the core of all shooting skills; provide a solid understanding of Georgia firearm laws; basic disassembly and reassembly of the firearm for cleaning and maintenance purposes; instill a high degree of confidence in the attendee at all levels of proficiency; and, to ensure the attendee is comfortable and qualified to attend more advanced levels of training when needed.

Foundation of Firearm Marksmanship Skills

Course Objective: To expand on the introductory skills presented in the first course of this proficiency series.  Attendees will be exposed to concepts designed to enhance their marksmanship abilities and further develop their confidence levels when required to engage range targets. These training concepts will include techniques to improve grip, handgun stability, sight picture and alignment, visual target acquisition methods, trigger manipulation, proper draw procedures (holstered), reloading techniques, and loading / reloading the weapon to maintain safe range conditions.

Precision Firearm Marksmanship, Intermediate Level I

Course Objective: Attendees will be exposed to manual and visual techniques that will enhance their ability to engage range targets with a higher degree of confidence and accuracy. Further instruction regarding the nuances of trigger manipulation, alignment of sights, and incorporating performance feedback into the skill development loop will be presented. The ability to properly identify and correct common weapon malfunctions will also be incorporated into both dry fire and live fire drills. The attendees can expect the distances to their range targets will be incrementally increased.

Precision Firearm Marksmanship, Intermediate Level II

Course Objective: Building on the skill development presented in the “Precision Firearm Marksmanship, Level I” course, attendees will continue to be exposed to a broader range of sophisticated techniques to improve marksmanship and accuracy. Dry fire and live fire drills will still be incorporated but will slowly begin to increase in difficulty and require a higher degree of manual dexterity. Training involving the engagement of multiple threats will be incorporated into live fire exercises, and the development of employing a tactical mindset during these exercises will be enforced.

Precision Firearm Marksmanship, Intermediate Level III

Course Objective: Building on the skill development presented in the “Precision Firearm Marksmanship, Level II” course, attendees will continue to be exposed to a broader range of sophisticated techniques under a wider range of more complex and stressful conditions. The number of targets to be engaged per exercise will be increased, as will their distance on the range. Developing marksmanship skills with the non-dominant shooting hand will be introduced, and competition drills between participants will be used sporadically as “confidence drills” to hone individual and group skills.

Shotgun for Home Defense, Specialty I

Distance Precision Shotgun, Specialty II

Course Objective: Building on the skill development presented in the “Shotgun for Home Defense, Specialty I” course, attendees will continue to be exposed to a broader range of sophisticated techniques under a wider range of more complex and stressing conditions. Environmental and tactical considerations will be addressed, and advanced capabilities of the defensive shotgun will be introduced. Special emphasis will be placed on speed loading, and manual dexterity skills will be incorporated into drills to build on the ability to load specialty rounds when needed.

Shotgun and Handgun Transition, Specialty III

Course Objective: In this unique course, attendees will apply the skills they have acquired in the offered handgun and defensive shotgun training to develop a “defense in depth” using multiple weapon systems. How to effectively transition between the two will be stressed, with confidence in marksmanship as the goal. Attendees will also have the opportunity to demonstrate enhanced shooting skills using slug rounds when needed, which greatly enhances the accuracy of the shotgun. Weapon accessories will also be addressed to enhance weapon handling and performance.
